HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 8 (acn) A new technical forum on illegal traffic of migrants and migration fraud was held September 7 in Havana by US and Cuban authorities in an effort to boost bilateral cooperation in that area.
The Cuban representatives at the meeting expressed their concern about the US dry-feet, wet-feet policy and the Cuban Adjustment Act as well as the Medical Parole Program, which establishes preferential treatment to Cuban citizens and encourage irregular migration to the U.S. directly from Cuba and from third countries. Such US policies also favor the trafficking of migrants and migration fraud.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the forum was held in a respectful and professional environment as both sides agreed that the meeting was useful and said they will continue to hold conversations on the issue.
