WHO Representative in the Philippines Praises Cuban Health SystemHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 1 (acn) Dr. Weiler Gundo Aurel, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Philippines, described as very interesting his recent visit to Cuba, along with members of that country's Health Ministry.

The WHO official in the Asian nation stressed that the Cuban health system is designed to meet the needs of the population.
He said that one of the things that impressed him most is how the system is interconnected between the primary, secondary and tertiary health care levels to meet the needs of persons suffering from different diseases and are referred to specialists when needed.
Likewise, he praised Cuba's model of prevention and promotion and actions to prevent people from getting sick, "which is integrated into the design of the national health system" underlined Dr. Gundo Aurel Weiler, of Germany.
He highlighted the preparation of Cuba and disaster response, and in this regard stressed that for the Philippines, often hit by hurricanes and earthquakes, cooperation in this area can be very interesting, in order to exchange experiences and learn what their medical emergency teams do.
He praised the project of Havana's Latin American Medical School, founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on November 15, 1999, which in its 12 graduations has trained nearly 28 thousand young people from a hundred nations.
This is an enriching experience for the states sending youngsters to be trained in Cuba, but also for Cubans, who learn from the realities of other nations, he underlined.
The education approach is very interesting, with the integration of physicians and students in the health system; in addition to receiving high quality medical education, they acquire the values that allow them to return to their countries to alleviate the human resources problem faced by many peoples on the planet, he stressed.
Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial, Secretary of Health of the Philippines, headed the delegation of a dozen experts from the entity, and the representative of WHO in the Asian nation, with the aim of holding exchanges with sector authorities and dialogue on issues of bilateral interest.
