Tropical Wave Threatens Caribbean Islands and Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 26 (acn) A tropical wave known as Invest 99L, with potential to develop into a tropical storm, is threatening the Caribbean islands including Cuba as it aims towards the Bahamas.

"We expect 99L to become Tropical Depression Eight and then Tropical Storm Hermine at any time over the next few days," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski, Caribbean News Digital reported on Friday.

The tropical wave is now southeast of the Turks and Caicos Islands producing rains and wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour.

Threat of flash flooding, mudslides and rough surf and seas are expected in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti over the next hours, as experts consider that the disturbance has the potential to be a life-threatening situation.

According to AccuWeather, those same conditions will spread northwestward over the Turks and Caicos, Cuba and the southern and central Bahamas into tomorrow and this weekend, the publication explains based on weather reports
