HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 23 (acn) Cuban President Raul Castro congratulated the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) on the occasion of its 55th anniversary.
In a letter read by UNEAC President Miguel Barnet, at the beginning of a cultural gala held at the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater in Havana, Raul wrote that he trusts the organization to be in the front line of the transformation process Cuba is underway to achieve a prosperous and sustainable Socialism.
Raul recalled that Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro said Culture was the shield and sword of the nation and urged them to live up to that concept.
The gala included presentations of the Cuban National ballet and the Yoruba Andabo ensemble, among others
