Holguin holds main celebrations for Cuban women´s Day

Holguin holds main celebrations for Cuban women´s DayHOLGUIN, Cuba, Aug 23 (acn) Holguin province will host today the National Act for the 56 anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC by its Spanish acronym), an organization founded on August 23, 1960 at the initiative of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution: Fidel Castro Ruz.

During the celebration, the women of the eastern territory will pay special tribute to the guide and legendary figure of this institution, the heroine of the Revolution: Vilma Espin, who was born on April 7, 1930 in Santiago de Cuba and died on June 18, 2007 in Havana.
Iris Diaz, member of the FMC provincial secretariat, told ACN that the main results that made possible the distinction of Vanguard Province include the role of health brigade members to support issues of hygiene and epidemiology in anti-vector campaign.
This condition is a reflection, she said, of joint work of the organization and its leaders to mark the date, essentially in the front lines of guidance of women and families on issues of health and education in the communities.
The event, at the Major General Calixto Garcia Iniguez Revolution Square, is preceded by the usual wreath to Lucia Iniguez Landin, one of the most courageous women in the history of Cuba.
The FMC, organization in the Caribbean nation that brings together since its foundation all women older than 14 years of age, gathers in Holguin more than 390,000 members.
