Santa Clara, August 10 (acn) Agricultural production in Villa Clara province grew some 28 thousand 260 tons in the first semester of this year compared to the same period last year in response to the modernization of the sector in the territory.
Hector Torna representative of the Ministry of Agriculture in the province told the press that the technological process includes the use of over 30 irrigation equipment which guaranteed the humidity of the crops directly benefiting the cultivations efficiency.
He added that they have been working in modernizing and holding workshops regarding the agricultural machinery, reparation of the canal network that leads the water to the different crop areas and improving other services.
Torna said that Emilio Cordova Company specializes in rice cultivation and processing which grew 2 percent from January to June of this year meaning an increase of 143.43 hectares above what was planned.
This is sustained with the improvement of the crop's technical base with the use of specialized means, he said.
The strategy designed to increase the agricultural production of Villa Clara is sustained in four large production poles whose priority are the location of the Quemado de Guines and Valle del Yabu in Santa Clara.
The projects in the Quemado de Guines include the recovery of the seeds of different varieties of bananas in over 180 hectares.
The specialized stressed that pivot irrigation systems using drops of water among others have been installed to attend the diversity of bananas planted in the region which is traditionally specialized in this cultivation.
Ihosvany Martin, Director of the Valle del Yabu Agricultural Company in Santa Clara told CAN that the entity has 10 modern tractors, four grain harvesters, six trailers to transport the crops and 7 fumigators among them four integral equipment.
