HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 30 (acn) Cuba reiterated on Wednesday in Geneva its solidarity and support for the government and people of Ecuador in the reconstruction efforts of the country after the earthquake that hit it in April 2016.
The island along with fraternal nations of Latin America and the Caribbean, was among the first countries to offer its solidarity aid to the Republic of Ecuador, said Anayansi Rodriguez, Cuba's permanent representative to the UN Office in this Swiss city, during a briefing on the issue with the Foreign Minister of that Andean nation, Guillaume Long, the Granma daily reported on Thursday.
The 26 rescuers and the group of physicians of the Henry Reeve Brigade who worked in the province of Manabi, returned to Cuba with the satisfaction of having accomplished the task and the deep conviction of having given their contribution to the fraternal people at a difficult time, she specified.
The diplomat explained that the Cuban health professionals, meanwhile, in 52 days of work, saw 10,400 people and performed more than 700 surgeries.
Rodriguez reiterated the call to the international community on the urgent need to step up the provision of aid Ecuador needs now, given the damages caused by the earthquake, which went beyond three billion dollars.
