HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 23 (acn) Army General Raul Castro, President of the Cuban councils of State and Ministers, received on Thursday afternoon His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations Organization, who traveled to Havana to participate in the signing ceremony of agreements between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP.
Ban Ki-moon expressed his satisfaction for visiting Cuba again and reiterated the recognition of the role Cuba plays in the peace process of Colombia. Both of them agreed to underline the importance of these agreements and the future mission of the United Nations in monitoring and verifying the ceasefire and the surrender of weapons. They also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest on the multilateral agenda.
Accompanying the distinguished visitor was Martha Doggett, Director for the Americas of the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations, Myrta Kaulard, UN Resident Coordinator in Cuba, and Mr. Chang Wook-Jin, Special Assistant to the Secretary General of the United Nations.
Also representing Cuba at the meeting was Bruno Rodriguez, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
