Cuba loses to Turkey in FIBA women's qualifying tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 17 (acn) Cuba lost to Turkey in the quarterfinals of the FIBA women's qualifying tournament, event which grants five tickets to Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.

In Nantes, France, Turkish, fourth seat in the World championships of 2014 and fifth spot in London 2012 Olympics, easily won 71-45 (16-12, 26-12, 14-16, 15-5) over Cubans.
The leading scorer of the match was Turkish forward Lara Sanders with 18 points, escorted by her teammate and pivot Nevriye Yilmaz (17), while Cuba's highlights were Ineidis Casanova (15) and Marlene Cepeda (8), the latter also grabbed 8 rebounds.
The European squad dominated in all aspects of the game, especially in the stats of 3P field goal and rebounds, where the Caribbean team had a very poor performance.
The four winners in quarterfinals directly qualify to Rio, while the losing sides will continue fighting for the remaining ticket to the Olympics.
Now, Cuba will face South Korea that lost 50-70 to Spain and in case of winning will advance to the fifth place game, which will grant the final berth to Rio.
