Diaz-Canel Ends Visit to Japan

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 3 (acn) The First Vice-president of the Cuban councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz Canel, concluded his official visit to Japan, during which he championed the revitalization of bilateral relations and cooperation, reported Prensa Latina.

During his stay in Japanese soil, Diaz-Canel held meetings with top government and parliament leaders of Japan, as well as with representatives of major companies, in order to increase cooperation in the political, commercial and economic spheres.
The Cuban leader highlighted the traditional diplomatic ties between the two countries since 1929.
Japan was the second largest trading partner of Cuba in the 1970s and 1980s, he said while commenting on the prestige enjoyed by the Japanese business community.
Diaz-Canel spoke with Japanese First Deputy Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso; Prime Minister Shinzo Abe; and Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, with whom he reviewed the state of bilateral ties.
Similarly, he spoke with the presidents of the two chambers of parliament, and Masaaki Yamazaki Tadamori Oshima, respectively, and agreed on the importance of increasing meetings between legislators of the two countries.
The Cuban leader held several meetings with Keiji Furuya, president of the Japan-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship League, and the two of them reviewed the progress of bilateral relations, mainly over the last two years.
Diaz Canel also traveled to the historic city of Hiroshima and there he described the atomic bombing to that city carried out by the United States as a criminal, unnecessary and morally unjustifiable event.
The First Vice-president paid an official visit to Japan from May 31 until Friday morning and his return to Havana is scheduled for Saturday.
