Picewell Forbes, of the Bahamas, Arrives in Cuba for ACS SummitHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 1 (acn) Picewell Forbes, head of the delegation of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, arrived here today to participate in the Seventh Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), scheduled to begin on Thursday and end on Saturday.

The Cubaminrex Web site reports that Forbes holds the position of Bahamas High Commissioner to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the 14 members of which are also part of the ACS.
According http://www.acs-aec.org, the Commonwealth of The Bahamas is a chain of 700 islands and more than two thousand cays and rocks extending from the east coast of Florida to almost northern Cuba and Haiti.
The official site of the ACS asserts that tourism and financial services are the two most important economic activities in the Bahamas, where almost 50 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) comes from the so-called smokeless industry.
The focus of the Seventh Summit of Caribbean States is strengthening unity in diversity, coordination and cooperation for the benefit of the peoples and the sustainability of the region.
Notes published in http://www.minrex.gob.cu state that also arriving in Cuba to participate in the meeting of the ACS were delegations headed by Marie-Luce Penchard, vice president of the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, and Aline Hanson, president of the Overseas Collectivity of St. Martin.
