Capture and processing of fish in Central Cuba keeps good pace

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, May 11 (acn) The fishing company of the central Cuban province of Villa Clara caught and processed more fish of freshwater species than planned, showing in the first three months of this year the consolidation of the good results of 2015

The fruitful work in 2015, when the group concluded its forecasts in late October and exceeded expectations at the end of December, is maintained through the current year, although the demand of the population still exceeds supply .

Ariel Roche, director of technology and operations of the entity, told ACN that from last January to April they caught 675 tons of fish, 30 percent above the stage program.

He highlighted the capture of catfish intended for sale to tourist hotels in Varadero and cays northeast of the province, the contribution to medical diet and some sales in fish markets.

Roche said they also delivered 37.8 tons of decapitated and eviscerated tench for export in the Caribbean market for a 120 percent of realization.

He added that extraction levels are limited by the need for improvement and expansion in the production stations of fry and intensive cultivation, while in the investment program it is planned the opening of a new station in Placetas municipality.

Fish processing also achieved good results 1 053 tons, 45 percent more than planned in high demand products, said Fernando Castañera, director of industry and marketing of the entity.

Croquettes, burgers and a wide variety of offers show a high acceptance among consumers, he added.

They work in the repair and maintenance of facilities along with the disposal of waste, in addition to the placement of a new line for sausage production from river species, scheduled for the second half of the year, he noted.
