HAVANA, Cuba, May 11 (acn) The 5 th International Tropico Convention to be held from May 30th to June 3rdwill center its debates on the destructions caused by climate change with the participation of close to 400 professionals from 17 countries.
Disaster prevention, lessening the impact, loss of biological diversity and the sustainable management of the soil are some of the most important issues of the event, said Dr. Jorge Angel Luis Machin, President of the organizing committee and director of the Tropical Geography Institute.
He added that the agenda also includes food sustainability, urban agriculture, improving the environmental and forestry laws, economy and socio cultural problems associated to the degradation of the environment.
The impact is aggressive, the effects of climate change is valued in a temporary scale close to humanity and is contrasting and in many case contradictory to the variety and complexity of the environmental and socio cultural problems in the tropical nations, he said.
That is why, Luis Machin characterized as very interesting the debates and exchanges on the issue in the event to be held at Havana´s Convention Center due to the fact that ¨such challenges require a necessary unity among the researches and academic positions with executions of knowledge¨.
The slogan of the convention is ¨for a culture of the land and life¨, that includes congresses of geography, agriculture, biodiversity and ecology and meteorology in addition to environmental and forestry laws including University and Geography in the contemporary world.
Cuban institutions, mainly working under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, scientific societies and the country´s universities are sponsoring the 2016 Tropico Convention.
The first conference will be presided by Dr. Maritza Garcia Garcia, president of the Cuban Environmental Agency after the official inauguration to take place on May 30th.
