CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Feb 29 (acn) Havana handily won again the Rafael Fortun In Memoriam National Speed Festival in its 26th version, which during the weekend took place in this city.
The winning team totaled 91 points, far away from Cienfuegos (61.5) and Camaguey (55), which finished second and third respectively.
The highlights in the contest went to Cienfuegos´ Arialis Gandulla, who won the women's 100 and 200 meter events and was also part of the 4x100 relay of the national squad that won this modality.
It drew attention of the specialists that Camagüey's Rose Mary Almanza, Cuban major figure in the women's 800 meters, was third with time of 2: 04.26 minutes, event won by Matanzas´ Zahilí Diago ( 2: 07.71).
The winners in other events were Nairobis Biset (Matanzas) and Leandro Zamora (Granma) in women's and men's 400 meter hurdles, Andy Gonzalez (Havana) men's 800m, Roberto Skyers (Camagüey) men's 200m, Belkis Milanés (Santiago de Cuba) 100m hurdles, Roger Iribarne (Havana) 110m hurdles and the national quartets in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays in both sexes.
This festival is organized every year by Camagüey province in tribute to Rafael Fortun (1919-1982), local athlete who shone in sprint events in Cuba and Pan American and Central American and Caribbean Games.
