Cuba and South Africa Reaffirm Bonds of Friendship

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 29 (acn) The traditional ties of friendship uniting South Africa and Cuba today were reiterated in a meeting with Knocks Seabi, secretary general of the African National Congress (ANC) in the province of Limpopo.

Seabi received Tania Perez, second head of Cuba's mission in the country, at the headquarters of the ANC in Polokwane, capital of the northern territory, Prensa Latina reported.
Also attending the meeting were representatives of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Communist Party (SACP), members of the triple alliance of government.
Perez referred to the main challenges facing the Caribbean island and talked about preparations for the next Congress of the Cuban Communist Party.
She also recalled that this year marks the twentieth anniversary of the arrival of the first group of Cuban physicians to South Africa.
Meanwhile, Seabi expressed interest in details about the current scenario, starting from the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba.
The diplomat conveyed the message of thanks for the support and insisted on the need not to decline in the movement of solidarity for the end of the economic, financial and commercial blockade that for more than 50 years Washington has imposed on the Cuban people.
