Ramon Castro Ruz Dies in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (acn) Ramon Castro Ruz died in this capital on Tuesday morning, at age 91.
He was born in Biran, in today’s Holguin province, on October 14, 1924. He was incarcerated by the regime of dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1953. During the liberation war he cooperated with the 26 of July Movement and organized one of the rings of varied supplies that provided the 2nd Frank Pais East Front.
After the triumph of the Revolution he occupied different posts at various levels in the agricultural and livestock sector, mainly in the fields of sugarcane and cattle raising. He was the director of the Valle de Picadura Special Genetic Project and advisor to the ministers of Agriculture and Sugar.
For services rendered, he received several acknowledgements and was appointed Labor Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
His mortal remains were cremated and will later be taken to his birthplace.
