Modernization of Underground Electricity Networks in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 17 (acn) The Electric Company from the city of Havana and Geomineria from the province of Pinar del Rio are currently modernizing the underground electricity network with some 20 working brigades in the streets of Prado and Neptuno in the Cuban capital.

The main investment specialist from the Electric Company in Havana, Alejandro Llufrio told the Cuban News Agency that the work is complicated because this is a highly populated area with lots of traffic and that is why other tasks are also underway like telephone, gas and water networks.

He stressed that work has been underway for the last three years aimed at improving the service to the population with close to 40 million pesos in both currencies destined to the area.

The population in streets like Oficios, Mercaderes and Obispo are enjoying the quality of the service and are satisfied because the existing networks were over 100 years old and were already causing many problems, said the specialist.

The work will also benefit the hotels in the area that are also under the old system.

Llufrio commented that with the new technology they will achieve independence from the circuits in order for each to have its own transformer and specific feeding lines.

He also pointed out that the modernization will allow the observance in real time of the voltage conditions, current and position of the switches.

Prado is one of the main Havana avenues and has important an architectural infrastructure like the Fuente de India, Alicia Alonso Gran Theater of Havana, Hotel Inglaterra and Capitol building, among others
