HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 16 (acn) Bruno Rodriguez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry with the U.S. Secretary of Transport, Anthony Foxx, who traveled to Cuba to participate in the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of regular flights between Cuba and the US The digital Web site www.cubaminrex.cu reported that the Secretary was accompanied by the Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs of the State Department, Charles Rivkin, the Deputy Chief of the U.S. Embassy to Cuba, Scott Hamilton, and other officials from the Departments of Transport and State.
Tackled during the meeting were various issues of interest concerning the current state of relations between Cuba and the United States and the impact the implementation of the agreement signed could have on travel between the two countries, which may be exploited to its full potential once freedom of travel of U.S. citizens to Cuba is restored.
The Cuban party stressed that the signing of this Memorandum is a step that favors the process towards improvement of bilateral relations, for the normalization of which the lifting the blockade will be essential, among other issues pending to be resolved.
In the morning, the Minister of Transport, Adel Yzquierdo, met with Secretary Foxx and part of his delegation, an occasion in which they exchanged views on the prospects of links in the field of air transport and the possibilities of cooperation between Cuba and the United States in the sphere of civil aviation and other areas of interest.
Also representing Cuba at the two meetings were the director general of the U.S. Office of the Foreign Ministry, Josefina Vidal; the President of the Institute of Civil Aeronautics of Cuba, Alfredo Cordero, and other Foreign and Transportation Ministry officials.
