HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 13 (acn) His Holiness Kirill, leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, visited the Solidaridad con Panama school in Havana city, where he brought wheelchairs for children with special needs.
The principal of the school, Esther María La O Ochoa, welcomed the religious leader, and introduced him to the children that were waiting for his visit.
Later he toured the facility and received a detailed explanation about the functioning on the school where children with special needs study from early ages till they turn 18 years old.
After that, he enjoyed several performances by the children, and spoke to them with words of encouragement and praise. He said that it brought him great joy to be there and that ¨ it is great when State and society look after people with special needs¨
The Patriarch donated toys, laptops and customized wheelchairs, and received in return toys made by the kids. He told them they were able to do things many people cannot do, and urged them to study and be proud.
Cuban Revolution historical Fidel Castro opened the Solidaridad con Panama school in 1989, the only of its kind in Cuba, and that has been visited by dozens of heads of State and Government from all over the world during their visits to Cuba.
