HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 14 (acn) The Cuban Meteorology Institute has issued a first special advisory about possible and persisting heavy and intense rains in western and central Cuba on Wednesday.
A wide band of rain is expected to heavily affect Cuban territory from western Pinar del Rio to central Sancti Spiritus province.
The weather situation is linked to a wide instable atmospheric area that favors rainfalls, due to a cold front over the Bahamas and Central Cuba, connected to high humidity levels, the institute said. Other special advisories will be issued progressively.
Over the past few days, Cubans have woken to cloudy and rainy days with intense rainfalls in various localities.
Weather experts foresee a rainy period during the first four months of the year as a result of the action by El Niño natural phenomena, which have been gaining strength.
So far, the Cuban Civil Defense authority has not issued any alert, but protection actions could be announced at any moment depending on the deterioration of the weather situation.
