CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Dec 21 (acn) Rolando Acebal, head coach of Cuban boxing team, described as superior regarding the organization and technical quality of the athletes attending in this city the just concluded 54th edition of Playa Giron boxing tournament.
The specialist told ACN that the athletes come better prepared than in the past, to the point that provincial teams which were previously considered as weak showed figures in an extraordinary shape, which means that they are working hard all around the nation.
He added that although historically in this contest there have been cases of Olympic and world champions losing to young boxers on the rise, this time a larger force was evident in the members of the national team, which proves the good condition this sport is living.
Acebal said they already made a recruitment process and have in reserve about 30 young athletes, many of them with the potential to enter the starting lineup, so they will be closely followed next year, after the start of the Olympic cycle.
He added they expect starting 2016 with a good performance in the World Series to be held in January in Havana, and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next summer, for which they are not yet qualified to all divisions.
Meanwhile, Raul Fernandez, coach of the Cuban team, praised the work of Camaguey in the preparation of the 54th Playa Giron National Tournament, and as for the next World Series in Havana, he said it will be attended by the main figures of the squad which remains virtually intact today.
