HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 15 (acn) Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, President of Cape Verde, arrived in Cuba Monday afternoon on an official visit.
Upon his arrival, the President was received by Ana Teresita González, Cuba´s Deputy Foreign Minister.
De Almeida said his country is willing to strengthen its friendship with Cuba that dates from the times it was fighting for its independence. ¨We received lots of support from Cuba in our struggle and to build the new State¨
¨We hope that in the future these bonds will develop in several ways, since we have a lot on common, ¨ he said.
His visit includes official talks with the Cuban President Raul Castro and with the President of the People´s Power Assembly, Esteban Lazo.
Cuba and Cape Verde established diplomatic relations shortly after the latter declared its independence from Portugal on July 5, 1975.
