President of Costa Rica Interested in Cuban BiotechnologyHAVANA, Cuba, Dec. 14 (acn) The President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, expressed in this capital on Monday his country's interest in establishing scientific, technological and human bonds with the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), of the BioCubaFarma business group.

After receiving at that institution a detailed explanation on the development of the branch, Solis said that this center of excellence honors Cuba and the rest of the world, and praised its great contributions with products for chronic non-transmissible diseases, such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular complaints.
Also, the head of state stressed the interest in introducing in his country the medicament Heberprot-P, for diabetic foot ulcers, which prevents amputation in most patients on which it is applied, and also other lines destined to agriculture and stockbreeding.
Moreover, Dr. Fernando Llorca, Costa Rican Health Minister, praised the Cuban program for the attention of diabetic persons, ranging from monitoring glucose levels to treatment with Heberprot-P.
Llorca announced the pilot plan that will start in hospitals in Costa Rica with Heberprot-P, and highlighted the cost-benefit of this therapy, which they plan to subsequently extend nationwide.
The distinguished visitor arrived on Sunday on an official visit to Cuba and during his stay he will hold official talks with Army General Raul Castro, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, and carry out other activities.
