Cuba observes Day of Latin American Medicine

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 3 (acn) All Cuban public health workers will develop different activities today on the occasion of the Day of Latin American Medicine and the 182nd anniversary of the birth of the eminent Cuban scientist Carlos J. Finlay.

The day of recognition of that union, which groups almost 500 000 members, began on November 7 in Holguin and aims to highlight the selfless work of employees of the National Health System, who work both in Cuba and in medical missions in other countries, Dr. Santiago Badías, secretary general of the union, told ACN.
The plan of action for the date, which will run until January 1st, also includes a special tribute to those who stand out in an exemplary manner in their labor collectives.
The actions for the Day of Health Workers also recognize to members of Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, who participated in the fight against Ebola in West Africa.
The central act for the anniversary will take place today in Havana at Julio Diaz National Rehabilitation Hospital, which provides specialized medical care and shows remarkable results.
