UN representatives highlighted negative effects of the blockade to Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 27 (acn) Members of the United Nations (UN) in New York today reaffirmed support for the Cuban claim of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than five decades, which limits normal development of its people.

At a meeting of the General Assembly of that organization to assess the Cuban draft resolution against this unilateral policy, countries like Mexico, Colombia, Russia and Brazil stressed that sustainable development of a nation must be above any political and economic difference.

The Mexican government considers that no nation can use its force to implement measures affecting the development of another, which go against the principles of international coexistence enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

The delegation of Mexico welcomed the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, and said he was convinced that this will contribute to strengthen dialogue between all nations in the hemisphere.

For its part, the Colombian delegation also expressed hope that perceive the process initiated by the two countries to normalize their ties; while demanded the US government the immediate end of the blockade. He said the permanent and growing rejection by over two decades by the international community of the criminal siege, evidence and the need for its elimination. In turn, the Russian delegate attributed the US siege an incompatible character and interference in Cuba's internal affairs in nature. We urge again its lifting since it is a harmful element to multilateral relations, he said.

The representative of Brazil spoke of the successes of the Cuban economic model, but warned of the fact that it is affected by the effects of the blockade.


He noted in this regard the increased US persecution of Cuban trade transactions abroad, so he asked President Barack Obama to use his powers to help its elimination.
