Esteban Lazo Receives Visiting Vietnamese PresidentHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 29 (acn) Esteban Lazo, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and president of the National Assembly of People's Power, received Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, who is on an official visit to Cuba with the purpose of strengthening the bonds of friendship existing between the two nations.

During the meeting, held on Tuesday in this capital, Lazo expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with the Vietnamese head of state and his accompanying delegation - "a meeting of historic fraternal friends," he pointed out.
He acknowledged Vietnam's solidarity with the Cuban Revolution during the hard years of the Special Economic Period, as well its solidarity in the struggle for the end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than five decades now.
After congratulating Vietnam for the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of its independence, Lazo expressed his gratitude for the support given by the government and Party authorities to the 7th Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, successfully held this week.
After his meeting with Lazo, the Vietnamese president, along with his accompanying delegation, laid a wreath by the bust in Havana perpetuating the memory of Ho Chi Minh, in the park of the same name.
As part of his three-day official visit, he is expected to sign agreements for cooperation between the two countries.
During his stay, the President will receive the Jose Marti Order, the highest award given by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.
