HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 27 (acn) Army General Raúl Castro, President of the Cuban councils of State and Ministers, held a working meeting at the Cuban Mission in New York with a group of leading American businessmen, headed by the president of the United States Chamber of Commerce, Thomas Donohue.
Addressed during the meeting were businesses opportunities in Cuba, as well as the limitations are still in place for the two countries to have normal economic relations, due to the persistence of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.
According to the website of the Cuban Embassy to the northern nation, Donohue explained the Cuban president the importance of the establishment on Friday of the U.S.-Cuba Business Council, a business organization made up by large U.S .firms interested in establishing economic ties with Cuba and committed to work directly on the U.S. Congress to achieve the lifting of the blockade.
Jodi Bond, Vice President for the Americas of the US Chamber of Commerce; Douglas Oberhelman, chief executive of Caterpillar; Kenneth Siegel, chief administrator and legal adviser of the Starwood hotel chain; Art Torno, senior vice president of American Airlines, and Godown Lee, vice president of General Motors, also attended the meeting.
Also representing Cuba at the meeting were Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez; the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca; and other officials.
