HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 22 (acn) Pope Francis arrived on Monday at the Antonio Maceo International Airport of the city of Santiago de Cuba, where he will conclude his first apostolic visit to the island, which began on September 19.
He was received by the President of the National Assembly of the People's Power, Esteban Lazo. Also present at the airport were political and governmental authorities, along with religious personalities and a large representation of the people.
This is the third stop of His Holiness in the country, after Havana and Holguin. His activities in Santiago began in the afternoon with a private prayer to the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, Cuba's patron saint, at the sanctuary dedicated to her, where he will also officiate at mass on Tuesday, among other activities in the eastern territory.
