HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 18 (acn) Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez will pay an official visit to Cuba over the weekend on the invitation of the Cuban government, and she will attend mass by Pope Francis on Sunday, September 20 at Havana´s Revolution Square.
President Cristina Fernandez is expected to arrive Saturday at 5 at Havana´s Jose Marti International Airport so far being the only Latin American president to be for the occasion, except the host Raul Castro.
According to Argentina´s media, Monsignor Guillermo Karcher, who is in charge of Vatican´s ceremonies, confirmed the trip of the President to Cuba and her attendance of the mass by saying "they are two heads of state and there is much respect between them. And on the other hand there is going to be a mass in Cuba, which the president will attend."
Local reports say that the Argentinean leader will return home on Sunday. Cristina Fernandez has met with the Pope in six previous occasions being the first one the day before Jorge Bergoglio became Pope and the latest on July 12, this year.
Referring to a possible visit by the Pope to Argentina, Monsignor Karcher put the possibilities for 2017, because 2016 will mark Mercy Year and it will be unlikely that the Pope leaves Rome.
