Cuba and Chile Ratify Interest in Strengthening Bilateral Bonds

cuba_chileHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 4 (acn) Chile’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, expressed on Thursday in this capital his government’s interest in strengthening and diversifying bonds with Cuba, in the political and cultural spheres as well as cooperation.
For our country, exchanges with Latin America and the Caribbean are a priority, and especially with Cuba, the Chilean Foreign Minister stressed during a meeting with his counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party.
Among reasons for this interest, Muñoz highlighted the history and diplomacy of the Cuban nation in relations, which "we intend to deepen even more in terms of politics, cooperation and culture."
In this regard, he underlined the importance of this visit as head of a large delegation, composed of government officials and more than thirty businessmen of Chilean organizations.
Muñoz reiterated Chile's support for the Cuban struggle for the lifting of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on the island for over 50 years.
For his part, Rodriguez thanked the South American nation for its support in the voting at the UN General Assembly against the US blockade, and the effort in that regard within the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
He described bilateral relations as intense and positive, "although there is great potential that allows developing them in the cultural, academic, scientific, economic and commercial spheres" taking the new opportunities created in Cuba and demands to boost its economy as a starting point.
The delegation, which will end its visit on Saturday, is also composed of Andres Rebolledo, Director General of International Economic Relations of the Chilean Foreign Ministry, and Herman von Mühlenbrock, president of the Society for Industrial Development, one of the most important of that nation.
