Raul is attending the 1st Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) underway in the Chilean capital, from where he sent his message to those who waited in Havana the anniversary.

In the message, Raul apologized for not being able to be present in the homage to Marti and to repeat the first Torch March held 60 years ago along Machado Ventura and others. During the ceremony, university students sang to honor the homeland, its heroes and martyrs, and laid floral wreaths to the memorial that keeps the ashes of Julio Antonio Mella, the founder of the University Students Federation (FEU).

FEU's President Lisara Corona Oliveros said this gathering was the most eloquent confirmation of the unity and commitment of Cuban youngsters towards history, present and future of the nation, and a great homage to Marti

The Cuban flag that Raul Castro used in the April 1952 in the symbolic burial of the 1940 Constitution was returned to the Marti's Forge after opening the march along another 59 similar banners. At the same place was opened the exhibition El verdadero hombre, de Antonio Guerreo, one of the five Cuban fighters serving unjust sentences in the United States for fighting terrorism against Cuba
