HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 9 (acn) Army General Raul Castro, President of the councils of State and Ministers, received Jorge Arreaza, Executive Vice-president (VP) of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, who paid a working visit to the island.
In a wide and fruitful meeting held on Saturday afternoon, Raul and Jorge Arreaza expressed satisfaction for the excellent state of bilateral relations and their upward development. The Venezuelan VP Jorge conveyed to him and to the Cuban people greetings from President Nicolas Maduro and expressed his gratitude for the firm position of Cuba in support of the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution and of the civic-military union of the Venezuelan people.
They also spoke about issues of mutual interest on the international and regional agendas, particularly on the development of ALBA, CELAC and on integration processes based on the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Peace Zone, signed by the Heads of State and Government at the Second Summit of the CELAC held in Havana in January, 2014.
The meeting was attended by Virginia Rosa Chavez, daughter of late Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution Hugo Chavez; Alexander Yanes, Deputy Foreign Minister; and Bernardo Alvarez, Executive Secretary of the ALBA-TCP. Cuba was also represented at the meeting by Bruno Rodriguez and Rogelio Sierra, Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister, respectively.
