Raul Presides over Main Rally for July 26 in Santiago de Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 26 (acn) Army General Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party (CC of the PCC) and President of the councils of State and Ministers, presided over the rally held in the Hero City of Santiago de Cuba for National Rebellion Day.

The national cultural and political mass meeting on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons took place at the site of the July 26 School City -a meeting also attended by Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, Second Secretary of the CC of the PCC and Vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers, who delivered the main speech of the commemoration.
Politburo members Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers; Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdes, one of the participants in the heroic deed of July 26, 1953; and Salvador Valdes and Esteban Lazo, Vice-president of the Council of State and President of the National Assembly of the People's Power, respectively, were also present.
Some 10,000 people, including locals representing their people and guests, accompanied persons who played a leading role in that exploit and members of the expeditionary force of the Granma yacht; Heroes of the Republic of Cuba -among them The Cuban Five; members of solidarity-with-Cuba brigades; leaders of political, social and mass organizations; members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Ministry of the Interior, and other guests.
