HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 22 (acn) A farming community that will devote over 500 hectares to various crops, mainly grains, was inaugurated in Veguita, at 35 kilometers from the provincial capital, in salute to July 26th.
About 2 800 000 pesos were spent on the work that turned the old pre-university Fernando Chenard Piña, in the municipality of Puerto Padre, into 77 homes, task that involved about 200 workers from different entities belonging to Agriculture Ministry in Las Tunas province.
In addition to comfortable the housing units delivered to families in La Veguita, several premises became health, education and service delivery centers, such as medical office, pharmacy, day care center, elementary school and grocery store, among others.
Omar Perez Lopez, Chief of the Ministry of Agriculture in the territory, talked to ACN about the quality of these lands and the guarantee of having irrigation of different technologies, covering all areas.
He explained that the possibility of creating a similar community in a place yet to be determined, to seize also the facilities of schools built in the countryside in past decades is valued.
The opening ceremony of the community was attended by Ariel Santana, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and its first secretary in Las Tunas, and Lilian Gonzalez, president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power.
