Raul Castro: Young Communists Congress at the center of Cuban reality

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 20 (acn) Cuban President Raul Castro said that the 10th Congress of the Young Communist League was in tune with current reality of the country.

Following the closing of the forum on Sunday, which was attended by 600 delegates and guests at Havana´s Conventions Center, Raul expressed optimism and satisfaction about the new generations of Cubans.

The Cuban leader stressed death and quality of the opinions and criteria put forth by participants during the Congress and before leaving the scene he congratulated the leadership of the youth organization.

In the central report to the forum, Young Communist League first secretary Yuniasky Crespo said that the issues at the center of debates included the performance of youth organizations at the base and their role in attending to the young people, the results of political processes, the organization members´ actions at labor centers and neighborhoods.

The dozens of thousands of opinions raised in meetings throughout the country prepared the platform for debates at the 10 th Congress, which focused on the role of the new generations in the current Cuban reality.

Sunday´s plenary session, attended by President Raul Castro and other Revolution leaders, addressed important issues related to the defense of the country, including the reinforcement of history as a subject, given the new scenario in which Cuba and the U.S. reestablish diplomatic relations.

The improvement of curricula on civic, legal culture was also on the spotlight as well initiatives aimed at having the youth share knowledge at historic sites and museums, and other activities.

Important on the agenda was the use of new information and communications technology, the social networks included, which are sources of knowledge and content-dissemination platforms to let people know about Cuba.

In regards to the new scenario between Cuba and the United States the Young Communist leader stressed the role of the youth in this process and the need to be well prepared from the ideological and ethical points view.

The plenary session of the Communist Youth forum was attended by the Second Secretary of Cuban Communist Party Jose Ramon Machado Ventura and by Revolution commanders Ramiro Valdes and Guillermo Garcia.
