Cuba´s Youth Communist League Congress kicks off in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 17 (acn) The Tenth Youth Communist League (UJC) Congress starts today in Havana in the Conventions Center after a year of intense work at grassroots level

The official opening ceremony will take place this morning, though the activities started actually yesterday with the presentation of the book Raúl Castro, un hombre en Revolución, by Russian Nikolai S. Leonov.

The first activity is to pay homage to the Moncada garrison attackers and the member of the Granma expedition, as a love expression of the youth to the historical generation that led by Fidel Castro fought for the Cuban true independence.

The 500 delegates and over a hundred guests will exchange with Ministers and policymakers to learn about the topics that interest youth and to forward the needs and aspirations of Cuban youngsters throughout the country.

Among these issues will be the strategies Cuba is implementing to develop, greater access to information technologies and communications, and the political and ideological subversive policies of the US after the December 17 announcement of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations.

The delegates will also discuss the life and jobs after graduating from college, according to the country´s needs.

After the first working day, the youngsters will attend the concert Te doy una canción by singer Augusto Enríquez and the National Symphonic Orchestra in the National Theater
