Cuban health workers in Venezuela ready to assist victims of floods

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 6 (acn) Given the natural phenomena affecting the Venezuela state of Apure, the Cuban health workers in that nation expressed their determination to assist the people in that area and in any region affected by natural disasters.

Cuban medical mission chief in Venezuela, Doctor Roberto Gonzalez, said that the over 30 thousand Cuban health workers in that nation are willing to offer their services anywhere.

A call to assist the residents of the Apure State requested the presence there of more than one hundred specialists, including surgeons, medical doctors, anesthesiologists, pediatricians and nurses.

"We are jointly working with the government and health authorities in Venezuela and we have drawn up an emergency plan to minimize the damage of this kind of natural events," said the doctor.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro recently declared the Paez municipality as zone of emergency and ordered the armed forces to protect and assist the victims of the natural phenomena by providing food and medicines.

More than 10 thousand families have been damaged by the overflow of the Arauca and Sarare rivers in the State of Apure as a result of very heavy rains over the past days.
