HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 30 (acn) The Chinese vice president of the National Development and Reform Commission Lin Nian Xiu stated his country´s willingness to broaden cooperation with Cuba in the field of biotechnology.
The Chinese official heads a 52-man strong delegation attending the Eighth Joint Cuba-China Biotechnology Work Group that studies the achievements and setbacks of the joint work in biotechnology, promotes new projects and sets the guidelines for future actions.
The two-day meeting, held at the Melia Habana Hotel, addressed cooperation in research and production, considering that more Cuban companies are opening joint ventures in China, and Chinese companies are setting shop in Cuba, according to Lin Nian Xiu.
This industry has turned into a significant growing factor for emerging economies, said the official and noted his country has allocated some 500 billion dollars for the production and commercialization of biotechnological products.
Nowadays, some 20 Chinese companies are actively working with Cuban companies, and in the last 2 years, 10 new projects were signed in this field. Some of them are related to the creation of vaccines against cancer and diabetes, and agriculture, he said.
The Chinese official also spoke of increasing cooperation in the Cuban production of rice, and other sectors.
