HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 22 (acn) Workers with the Cuban Railway Union are hard at work to restore an over-two-kilometer railway severely damaged after a cargo train derailed on Saturday in the locality of Cabaiguan, Central Sancti Spiritus province.
Local emergency forces are evacuating nearly 300 tons of cement from the silos of the derailed trained and despite irreparable damage on the equipment, the cargo will be recovered in full, the transportation ministry reported.
The accident, whose cause has not been revealed yet, occurred as five of 18 silos being transported from Central Cienfuegos to eastern Bayamo province derailed.
There was no human loss in the accident, though considerable material damage was reported in cargo equipment and the railway.
