Cuba and U.S. Universities Explore Potential for Educational Exchanges

Cuba and U.S. Universities Explore Potential for Educational ExchangesHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 20 (acn) Exploring opportunities for exchanges of services and products between the University of Baltimore (UB), United States, and the University of Matanzas (UM), was the focus of a meeting on Friday between professors of the two institutions.

During a meeting at the UM it was known that the increase of scientific potential of the host center in recent years, the existence of nine programs to train doctors and 12 master's degrees, and the commitment of the staff, are strengths to boost relations.

Kurt L. Schmoke, president of the UB, told ACN that there are several similarities between the academies, with respect to careers studied in them, and because both are located in areas related to the tourism industry, and more can be learned about these practices.

Rita Martinez, a specialist of the Department of International Relations at UM, said the system of scientific meetings organized by the university supports the accumulation of useful experience and prestige among participants.

Martinez also stressed that the work of the Matanzas institution promotes values such as excellence, patriotism, honesty, hard work and solidarity shared between students of Cuban and foreign origin living in the center.

Fifty percent of the staff of the University of Matanzas, founded in 1972, is composed of doctors and professionals with master's degrees. Their educational activities take place in two main buildings, the Camilo Cienfuegos and the Juan Marinello, which has so far trained students from over 50 countries.
