Salvadoran President Arrives in Cuba to Strengthen Bilateral Bonds

Salvadoran President Arrives in Cuba to Strengthen Bilateral BondsHAVANA, Cuba, May 26 (acn) Aimed at making progress in the consolidation of trade relations and cooperation with Cuba, the president of El Salvador, Salvador Sanchez, arrived today in this capital.

We always count on the solidarity and support of the Cuban people, which has an immense love towards rest of the nations of the world, Sanchez told the press upon his arrival at the Jose Marti International Airport, where he was received by Rogelio Sierra, Deputy Foreign Minister. The Salvadoran President said he felt as if he were at home.
Cuba and El Salvador reestablished diplomatic relations in 2009 with the coming to power of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, headed by Mauricio Funes, whose term of office ended in 2014.
He stressed that during those six years the two countries "have strengthened social policies, mainly in the areas of health and education, as well as in environmental issues and agricultural production."
We started international links in 2009 with a program of technical assistance and now we will start another one to expand exchanges, said the president, who on Wednesday will hold official talks with Army General Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the councils of State and Ministers.
Sanchez referred to the happiness of his people for the recent beatification of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero, in which the First Vice-president of the Cuban councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel, participated.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Salvadoran President attended in Havana a presentation by the children's theater company La Colmenita, an experience that, he said, he plans to extend to his country, so children can have a new and adequate training.
As part of his official three-day stay, Sanchez will visit on Wednesday the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and will meet with executives of BioCubaFarma.
