HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 10 (ACN) Cuban government vice-president Miguel Diaz-Canel ratified in Caracas his country's support of PetroCaribe regional program, a major mechanism of solidarity.
During a joint meeting of PetroCaribe and the Boliviarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America (ALBA), Diaz-Canel, who is also member of the Political Bureau of Cuba's Communist Party, expressed the island's support of the Venezuelan people and government in such important circumstances for the South American nation's struggle in reaffirming its sovereignty.
Petrocaribe and the ALBA are the two new major mechanisms for integration in the continent, based on solidarity and cooperation, said the Cuban government vice-president as cited by PL news agency.
These initiative bear the will, the ideas of solidarity, integration and internationalism of President Hugo Chavez, Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, he pointed out.
PetroCaribe has helped countering the effects of the world economic, energy and food crisis, said Diaz-Canel and noted that the regional program allowed Caribbean and Central American nations to dedicate resources to national development programs with the aim of solving differences in the access to energy resources.
