HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 22 (acn) Esteban Lazo, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the National Assembly of the People's Power received in Havana on Wednesday a group of Brazilian senators and deputies.
During the meeting with the delegation, Lazo inquired about the progress of the program "Mas Medicos" (More Doctors), boosted by President Dilma Rousseff, which has been joined by 11,429 Cubans who offer their services in communities and areas of high social vulnerability.
The Cuban Parliament President also referred to the island's cooperation in Haiti, which currently includes over 700 physicians.
He also recalled the contribution of Cuba to that Caribbean nation after the January 2010 earthquake and the subsequent cholera outbreak that claimed thousands of lives, and stressed the medical training received by 900 Haitian students on Cuban soil.
Lazo also spoke with the Brazilian senators and deputies about their impressions of their visit to several medical centers located in this capital.
The delegation, which also includes the advisor to the Minister of Health of Brazil, participates in the 2nd Cuba Health International Convention under way in Havana until April 24, attended by 40 ministers of this sector from various nations.
Parallel to this meeting, in which the top Brazilian health leaders are present, the 13th edition of the Scientific-Commercial Health for All Fair takes place at the PABEXPO showground.
