Cuban partial elections were positive and satisfactoryHAVANA, Cuba, Apr 20 (acn The municipal elections held Sunday in Cuba were described as positive and satisfactory with a huge voter´s turnout.

Over seven million 700 voters had cast their ballots near the closing hour of the election of municipal delegates or councilors in 24 thousand 646 voting stations deployed throughout the island.

The National Electoral Commission said that the vote took place without any inconvenience and proving the effectiveness of the communications systems.

A total of 27 thousand 379 candidates were nominated by the people, out of that figure 35, 84 were women and over 59 percent were acting councilors.

The president of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo, stressed the significance of the election by explaining that the process took place amidst the economic and social transformations underway in the country, while the delegates elected on Sunday represent the top authority of the Cuban political system at the base of society.

The vote takes place amidst the economic changes and as more responsibilities are being given to the municipalities, Lazo said.
