UNESCO Highlights Cuba's Results in Education

UNESCO Highlights Cuba's Results in EducationHAVANA, Cuba, Apr 10 (acn) Cuba is the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean that has managed to meet all the global objectives for Education for All (EPT) in the period 2000-2015, a goal achieved scarcely by one third of the world's nations, according to the 2015 Follow-up Report of Education for All in the World, presented on Thursday by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO).

Miguel Llivina, officer of the UNESCO Education Program to Havana, congratulated the Cuban government for the political will of making education accessible to everybody and praised the work carried out by the Education Ministry, the Granma newspaper reported on Friday.
Cuban Education Minister Ena Elsa Velásquez pointed out that although this is a commendable result Cuba still has many challenges ahead in terms of Education, focused mainly in increasing the quality of teaching, which is not merely providing knowledge but also working for a comprehensive education of students.
"We're not satisfied yet because we should achieve greater solidness in knowledge, higher training of teachers and have the necessary amount of them in all provinces."
