HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) The community of La Jata, in the Guanabacoa municipality of Havana, held an awareness-raising event on Thursday night as part of the national campaign "Against Drugs, We Win," with the presence of Party and government officials, and representatives of social institutions, according to the Facebook profile of the campaign.
Participating in the event were Livan Izquierdo, the Party's first secretary in Havana, and Yanet Hernandez Perez, the capital's governor, who emphasized the importance of prevention and community unity in the face of addiction.
Messages about the legal consequences and health risks caused by drug use were presented by specialists from the Attorney General's Office and the Ministry of Public Health, in a space designed for direct exchange with the population.
Testimonials from patients undergoing rehabilitation at the Havana Psychiatric Hospital provided a humane approach to the event, sharing recovery experiences and warning about the risks of drug use.
The activity concluded with a cultural presentation that included traditional dances, as an expression of identity and social cohesion in the region.
The "Against Drugs, We Win" campaign was conceived as a national public health and security strategy, led by the government and coordinated with state, social, and community institutions.
During high-level meetings, led by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, it was reiterated that combating this scourge is a matter of national security, with an emphasis on the protection of children, adolescents, and young people.
Among the strategy's core objectives are preventing the introduction and circulation of drugs in the country, strengthening border and airport surveillance, and consolidating international cooperation in drug control.
Educational and cultural activities complement preventive efforts, along with the training of specialists, early detection, and inter-institutional coordination, with the aim of reinforcing social values and breaking the chain of trafficking.
