Laos Foreign Minister Makes Official Visit to Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 2 (ACN) Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, is making an official visit to Cuba, in response to an invitation from his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) highlighted on its website today.

The visit by the Lao Foreign Minister reaffirms the priority of relations between both nations and the willingness to continue working to strengthen cooperation in all spheres, Minrex stated.

According to the publication, relations between Cuba and Laos are historical and fraternal, always characterized by an unbreakable friendship.

Ties between Cuba and Laos were officially established on November 4, 1974, although relations between both peoples date back to the 1960s, when a representation office of the Lao Patriotic Front operated in Havana, which was elevated to the rank of an embassy in 1965.

A demonstration of the state of relations between the two countries was the official visit made by Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, to Lao territory last September.
