Cuban company improves fodder supply in partnership with Spanish firm

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 5 (ACN) The Poultry Feed and Logistics Production and Marketing Company (Aligan) established an international economic association contract with the Spanish firm Alimento Sur to secure raw materials at more competitive prices and reduce costs for producers, the entity reported on the website of the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture (Minag).

Nilda Mieres Díaz, deputy director of Aligan, specified that the agreement, identified as CAEI Piensos Sur Aligan, supported financing and supply efforts in a context of shortages of inputs for livestock.

Aligan operates ten basic business units between Pinar del Rio and Mayabeque: five for feed production, one for premixes, two for storage and circulation from ports, one for logistics assurance, and one for transportation, according to corporate data.

Its functions included logistics assurance for poultry farming and, depending on availability, the management of production materials and inputs such as wires and fences for facilities.

Another line of work was reaching out to community councils where the factories are located to collect usable corn and agricultural byproducts, with an advanced project in Mayabeque aimed at import substitution.

The company indicated that it developed cooperative productions with foreign counterparts who provided raw materials, extenders, and additives for new animal feed formulations.

In conjunction with research centers, formulations focused on poultry (layers) and swine were investigated, and on a smaller scale, for horses, quail, and rabbits, adhering to nutritional tables to ensure efficient conversion.

During this stage, there was a high demand for balanced feed that could not be fully met; therefore, new business models were evaluated, and both bagged and bulk production were carried out, in line with customer requirements.

A technological projection contemplated introducing pelleting to serve more demanding market segments. To this end, productions were validated with external counterparts, with the goal of stabilizing the balanced supply of these foods in the country.
