HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (ACN) The National Association of Small Farmers in the municipality of San Jose de las Lajas, in the western province of Mayabeque, is promoting a gender strategy aimed at strengthening women's participation in agriculture.
This initiative, in line with the principles of social justice promoted by the Cuban Revolution, includes specific actions to ensure the active incorporation of women into agricultural production and credit and services cooperatives, as well as their access to management positions within these productive structures, Radio Camoa reported today on its website.
Representatives of the farmer organization told the media that priority is given to working with local institutions and organizations that contribute to consolidating a culture of equality and equity in the rural sector.
As a result of this effort, the presence of women in work related to food production has increased a fact that strengthens agricultural work in the capital of the province of Mayabeque.
The 2023 Monograph on Rural Women, published by the Latin American and Caribbean Women's News Service, confirms that rural women represent approximately 30 % of the agricultural workforce in Cuba. However, their participation in leadership positions within cooperatives and productive structures is still limited, highlighting persistent gaps in gender equity.
