Cuban distinguished historian to receive Honorary Doctorate

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 30 (ACN) The Center for Marti Studies (CEM) and the University of Matanzas will award the honorary doctorate degree tomorrow in Havana to Eduardo Torres Cuevas, one of the country's most distinguished historians with a notable group of essays on national historical processes and a wide reputation in the intellectual and academic fields.

CEM officials announced to the Cuban News Agency that the investiture of Torres Cuevas, director of the Jose Marti Program Office, will be celebrated in a ceremony at capital's Plaza de la Revolucion municipality.

They added that a lecture entitled "The Current Status of Marti's Thought" will be given later by PhD. Guillermo Castro Herrera, Panamanian university professor and member of the Jose Marti International Solidarity Project of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
